Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
The vison of Tex Rickard that opened in 1928, the Boston Garden was the home for all things Beantown entertainment until its closing in 1995, serving as the main home of the NHL's Boston Bruins and NBA's Boston Celtics during its glory days, the building also hosted rock concerts, amateur sports, boxing and professional wrestling matches, circuses, ice shows and political rallies. With the Boston Globe stating upon its closing that "all New England has lost a friend", offered here is this connected pair of yellow seats from the legendary building that hail from the personal collection of Phil Esposito. At approx 31” x 36”, the solid yellow seats feature the original cast construction with inserted wooden slats along with a single right arm rest, with “13” stenciled in white along the top of one seat back, “14” on the other. Hailing from one of hockey’s most storied buildings, we should note that special shipping arrangements may be required and that an LOA signed by Esposito will accompany the piece.
In terms of condition, large amounts of paint chipping are found over the yellow coloured surfaces on both the wooden and metal components along with some minor rusting/oxidation, mostly over the lower sections. Additionally, both seats open fully but it is worth noting that the one labeled "14" is stiffer than the other one beside it.
