Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Team-signed pucks are an anomaly in our hobby, with the little black discs not exactly ideal to house multiple signatures. We have just that for your collecting interests, with a rarely-seen example from the Original Six era that features the 1955-57 Boston Bruins. An “Official” puck as evidenced from the side stamping and correct for the era, off-white tape has been used to cover one side, with 12 signatures present, all administered in ballpoint. Included, we have Sawchuk, Schmidt (coach), Flaman, Gardner, McKenney, Boivin, Mohns, Mackell, Armstrong, Laycoe, Peirson and Willie O’Ree. The signatures all display well, including the Sawchuk, with just minimal wear to the puck itself.
We should note that Willie O'Ree played his first NHL games with the Bruins in 1957-58 after Sawchuk was back with the Red Wings, so the puck was most likely signed in an earlier season at training camp/pre-season.
