Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016

Game-used items from the legendary Bobby Orr are some of the most highly prized and sought after relics by the hobby cognoscenti, and rightfully so. This Victoriaville stick used and signed by Orr is a pro model, “Orr” is stamped on the shaft with “4” in red, along with the Victoriaville manufacturer’s label. Bobby’s patented ribbed grip tape job remains on the upper shaft, while the strand that once graced the blade is gone, but its outline remains visible. Game-wear includes a number of puck marks on both sides of the blade and lower shaft. Scarce and sought-after style, the stick can be dated by the 5-stripe celluloid accents on the shaft, used by Orr from about December 1969 to May 1970.
Orr has signed the stick in ballpoint on the upper shaft, along with a few others. The signature is thin and light, but remains very legible. The celluloid striping sticker previously mentioned that helps date the stick is intact on the upper shaft, while the matching sticker once located just above the blade is gone. Rare-style model sticks from earlier in Orr’s career seldom surface, so the Classic hopeful is advised to bid accordingly.
