Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
The first Canada Cup tournament and built off the success of the Canada-Russia series’ of both 1972 and 1974, the 1976 tournament witnessed a strong Team Canada that included Bob Gainey, Bobby Orr and Darryl Sittler victorious over Czechoslovakia to claim top spot. Originating from his personal collection, this Canada Cup Championship trophy was presented to HOF superstar Bob Gainey. At 12” in height, the half maple leaf metal trophy has been finished in silver colour, with a small plaque affixed to the side with “Bob Gainey Canada Cup 1976” engraved. There is some surface wear and bubbling of the silver finish over both sides – very common with these awards, with a few of the usually-sharp tips somewhat “rounded”, with this possible a production flaw. The felt on the underside was removed at some point, with a metal plate added, with a small hole also present. A signed LOA from Bob Gainey will accompany.
