Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015

The New York Islanders became in 1983 only the second team ever to win the Stanley Cup in four consecutive seasons. HOF goalie Billy Smith went 13-3 with two shutouts and a 2.68 GAA to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP after claiming the Jennings Trophy during the 1982-83 regular season. After winning playoff series against Washington, the N.Y. Rangers and Boston, Smith and fellow HOFers Potvin, Trottier, Bossy and Gillies served a lesson to Wayne Gretzky’s Edmonton Oilers with a four-game sweep in the final. Smith received his fourth straight Stanley Cup ring, this magnificent 14-karat gold creation with four big diamonds on the tableau representing the Isles’ four Stanley Cups. The dazzling ring weighs approximately 36 grams with "1983 Stanley Cup Champions" spelled out around the bezel that surrounds the sparkling tableau. “Islanders” is inscribed above the image of four Stanley Cups on the left shank with “’80 ’81 ’82 ‘83” on a banner across the bottom. The left shank shows the engraved Islanders logo, with "Smith" above, and Billy’s number "31" below. “Balfour” and “14K” are stamped along with a logo inside the size 10 1/2 band that has shaped itself to the contours of Billy’s finger. The band is somewhat flattened on the back and there are various scratches and dings to the edges from obviously proud wear. The ring still displays sharp details and remains a powerful commemoration of the great Islanders dynasty. Comes with Billy Smith’s signed LOA. Please note that this lot may be subject to a silent reserve.
