Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015

The 1970-71 American Hockey League playoffs produced one of the most incredible Calder Cup wins ever. HOF goalie Billy Smith led the Springfield Kings on an unbelievable 11-1 playoff run, including a tie-breaker against Quebec to qualify for the postseason. The 1970-71 Kings remain the team with the poorest regular season record to win the Calder Cup at 29-35-8. Talk about turning it around! Battlin’ Billy’s 1971 Calder Cup Championship ring weighs approximately 18 grams and features a purple stone set in the tableau, with “Calder Cup Championship” spelled out around the bezel in raised gold letters. “1971” is sprawled across the top of the right shank with the Calder Cup below it. The left shank has “Springfield Kings” spelled out above the team’s crown logo, all in raised gold. “John Roberts” and “10K” are stamped inside the size 9 1/4 band, along with Billy’s “WSJ” initials, for William John Smith. Wonderfully preserved ring has very light surface scratches on the back of the band. Comes with Billy Smith’s signed LOA.
