Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018

This in one of the most heavily-repaired uniforms we have ever offered! Incredibly hammered 1981-82 New Brunswick Hawks jersey worn by captain Bill Riley during their final season has well over 130 rectangular stitched team repairs. With a lineup featuring Steve Larmer, the Hawks won the Calder Cup in 1982 to cap the AHL franchise’s swan song season in Moncton before it moved to St. Catharines, Ont. The captain’s C sits on the left breast with Maska tagging in the neck and Maska logos embroidered on each hip, including one on the right rear hem and another on the left front hem. There are 38 team repairs on the front, 17 on the back, no less each than 37 on the left sleeve and 40 on the right sleeve.
More game wear includes red paint transfer to the left of the No. 7 sewn on the right sleeve in blue tackle twill, on the top of the white twill No. 7 on the back, to the left of the No. 7 and low on the left sleeve, and on the left hip, board burns on the sleeves and on the rear tail and hem, and reddish-brown stains low on the right sleeve and to the right of the upper part of the No. 7 on the left sleeve. There is a vintage garter-style fight strap, as well as evidence of a longer former nameplate as these jerseys were recycled during that era.
