Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016

Wayne Gretzky won the Conn Smythe Trophy for the second time in the spring of 1988. Gretzky and the Oilers claimed the Stanley Cup for the fourth time in five years with a five-game series win against the Bruins in a final that saw the Oilers win four and tie another because of a blackout at the old Boston Garden. The Great One’s name heads up the three columns of players’ names, including fellow HOFers Messier, Kurri, Fuhr and Anderson, engraved on the barrel of this very nicely preserved personal Stanley Cup trophy. It was presented by the NHL to Oilers trainer Barrie Stafford, whose name is engraved above those of the players along with owner Peter Pocklington, GM and coach Glen Sather, and the other Oilers executives and staff. Comes with Barrie Stafford’s signed LOA.
The other players whose names are engraved on the barrel are Acton, Beukeboom, Courtnall, Gregg, Hannan, Huddy, Krushelnyski, Lacombe, Lowe, MacTavish, McClelland, McSorley, Muni, Ranford, Simpson, Smith and Tikkanen.
There is a small hole in the middle of the green felt on the bottom of the round black wood base.
