Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
The 1986-87 Edmonton Oilers brought the Stanley Cup back to the City of Champions with a seven-game win over Philadelphia in the final after a heartbreaking early playoff exit the previous spring. In a tradition dating back to 1957, the NHL presented Wayne Gretzky and company personal Stanley Cup trophies. This one was awarded to Oilers trainer Barrie Stafford, whose name is engraved below the three columns of player names on the barrel, beginning with Gretzky, as captain, and including fellow HOFers Messier, Coffey, Fuhr, Kurri and Anderson. Very nicely preserved with a tiny dent from a small nick to the right of “Edmonton Oilers 1986-87” on the barrel. The Boffey sticker remains affixed to the green felt on the bottom of the round black wood base. Comes with Barrie Stafford’s signed LOA.
The other Oilers players whose names are engraved on this 1986-87 Stanley Cup personal trophy are Beukeboom, Buchberger, Gregg, Huddy, Hunter, Krushelnyski, Lemay, Lowe, MacTavish, McClelland, McSorley, Moog, Muni, Nilsson, Pouzar, Ruotsalainen, Smith and Tikkanen.
