Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
One of the first Europeans to dominate in North America - along with his countryman Ulf Nillson, Anders Hedberg first appeared for the WHA’s Winnipeg Jets in 1974-75, helping lead the team to a pair of Avco Cup championships in his four seasons with the club before embarking on a National Hockey League career that saw him suit up in 465 games. Offered here, we present this stick used by Hedberg in the era of the mid-to-late-1970s as a member of the Winnipeg Jets. A Northland Custom Pro model originally produced for teammate Bobby Hull, a pattern number of "4358" is stamped to the upper shaft along with a "Hull" stamp that has been crossed out with black marker but still appears through the ink a little bit. With Anders penning "Hedberg" in matching black ink over the upper shaft along with his number "15", the foil accent sticker at the bottom of the shaft remains present and intact. Featuring the familiar shaved handle that is seen at the top of all of Hull's game sticks, the lumber retain's Hedberg's original tape job of white-over-black on the handle/knob and black wrapped around the banana hook blade. Exhibiting game-use in the form of dark marks throughout the length of the shaft along with red post paint marks over the lower shaft as well, additional marks are present over the lower shaft, heel and blade as well. Additionally, wear is seen to the bottom of the blade and white paint like speckle marks are observed over the toe. Originally gifted by Hedberg to WHA linesman Gene Kusy, a copy of a letter of provenance signed and dated by his son, Michael, will accompany the piece.
