Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
One of only seven men throughout a century of NHL hockey to eclipse the insurmountable 700-goal plateau and just the third in the league's history to surpass the mark of 800, Alexander Ovechkin has proven himself as one of the game’s all-time greatest, with HOF enshrinement guaranteed. Staring down the barrel towards the NHL's all-time goal scoring record currently held by Wayne Gretzky and the practical owner of the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy that is awarded at seasons end to the man with the most goals during the season, Ovi has won it nine (9) times, including a run of four (4) straight between 2012-13 and 2015-16. A Stanley Cup champion with the Washington Capitals in 2018, a playoffs in which he also captured the Conn Smythe Trophy, Ovi has also secured a trio of Hart Memorial Trophy's and an Art Ross Trophy, offered here is this Washington Capitals jersey worn by Ovechkin for a trio (3) of games during the 2017-18 season, including on the nights of March 6 @ Anaheim, March 8th @ Los Angeles and March 10th @ San Jose as the Capitals marched towards a playoffs that would see them hoist Lord Stanley's coveted Cup for the first time in franchise history.
Made by Adidas, a band displaying both "Made in Canada" and size "58+" designations is affixed to the inner collar while the front and reverse necklines have been accented with the logos of the NHL shield and Adidas respectively. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a Capitals team crest that has had "Washington Capitals" and a trio of red stars embroidered into it, the distinguished captain's "C" is in place over the left breast while matching alternate logo crests rest atop of both shoulders. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Ovi's familiar number "8" in dual layer red-over-navy tackle twill numerals, "Ovechkin" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Displaying with a trio of fight straps on the interior, two (2) of which have been sewn into the sides by Capitals equipment staff, the jersey displays good game-wear despite being worn in only three (3) games, sporting stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves, light board burns over both sleeves, a small team repair over the left forearm, pilling on the exterior around the fight strap on the reverse and quite good pilling on the interior, that is heaviest behind the nameplate. Having had a MeiGray tag numbered "P06801" sewn inside the reverse hem that is accompanied by a matching MeiGray LOA, according to the company's Population Report, the jersey is a "White Set 2C w/C - Worn 3/6/18, 3/8/18 & 3/10/18" example.
Regarding the photo-matches, the jersey is matched with Getty Image #933380156 (March 10th, 2018 vs San Jose) to the stick marks seen over the lower front and with Getty Image #931024364 (March 10th, 2018 vs San Jose to the stick mark over the right elbow.
