Drafted 16th overall by the Big Bad Bruins in 1978, Al Secord would go on to a National Hockey Career that saw him play in 766 games and register 495 career points with Boston, Chicago, Toronto and Philadelphia. A Memorial Cup champion in 1976 with the Hamilton Fincups, up for grabs here is this Maple Leafs jersey worn by Secord circa 1987-88, his first season wearing the blue and white of Toronto. A Maska made garment with a partially detatched brand tag affixed to the inner collar, a partially washed out size tag is affixed alongside and displays a size “52” designation. Known for their frugal ways during the era, the jersey style is the same as what was worn by the Leafs from 1981-82 to 1983-84 based on the Maska logo embroidered over the rear hem and was likely dug out of team stock for use by Secord during training camp/pre-season play and possibly early on in the regular season during his first year with the club. Of note, Jim Korn wore #20 during the seasons this style was used but there is NO evidence of a former nameplate of any size having been sewn on. Styled over the front with a satin finish Maple Leafs team crest with “Toronto Maple Leafs” embroidered, matching alternate logo crests reside over each shoulder. Accented over the sleeves and verso with Secord’s number “20” in single layer white or blue twill numerals, “Secord” is spelt out in single layer blue twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate. Sporting a customized reinforced fight strap on the interior that has a braille label placed on the underside as jersey was originally from the Kevin Fiernbach collection, the jersey shows game via a small number of board burns and stick marks over the sleeves and reverse, an unrepaired cut over the lower front, a long thin blue board paint line at the right hip, some assorted staining throughout as well as pills/snags and pilling at the elbows on the interior.
