Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023

A veteran of 23-seasons in the National Hockey League that accounted for a total of 1416 career games played with the Calgary Flames and St. Louis Blues, Al MacInnis would win the Stanley Cup as a member of the Flames in 1989 and subsequently be awarded the Conn Smyth Trophy as playoffs MVP as well. A gold medalist with Team Canada at the 1991 Canada Cup and 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, offered here is this Flames jersey worn by MacInnis during the 1990-91 season. Made by CCM, a Maska Air-Knit tag displaying a handwritten size "50" designation in blue ballpoint pen is affixed to the inner collar while both the CCM and NHL shield logos have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with a tri-layer tackle twill Flames team crest, the distinguished alternate captain's "A" has been added over the left breast. Accented over the sleeves and verso with MacInnis' number "2" in dual layer white-over-yellow tackle twill numerals, "MacInnis" has been spelt out in matching style across the affixed matching nameplate across the top of the back. Exhibiting just light game-wear, black stick marks are seen under the alternate captain's "A" on the front and over the white stripe on the right side of the reverse while additional light marks, including one through the bottom area of the team crest, are found as well. Also sporting white coloured board paint marks near the left elbow and above the "A" in "MacInnis" on the nameplate, the interior of the jersey displays a fight strap with light signs of wear and washing as well as pilling at both elbows. A classic offering from one of the best to play the game, adding to the appeal of the jersey is that in footage taken from Calgary's 1991 1st round playoff series against the Edmonton Oilers, the jersey shows similarities to the one worn by MacInnis in the videos based on the nameplate placement as well as the extended yellow hem stripe with lowered CCM and NHL shield embroidery, something that is seen on many of Calgary's players during that round.
