Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Led by the likes of Wayne Gretzky, Pat LaFontaine, Brian Leetch and others who were regarded as NHL stars of the era, the New York Rangers, despite their less than impressive record during the season, were still one of the hottest tickets in the National Hockey League in 1997-98, finishing 6th in league attendance with an average attendance of 18189 out of the 18200 available seats at Madison Square Garden. Offered here, and dating to that 1997-98 campaign, is this stick used by Rangers winger, Adam Graves. A Bauer Supreme 3003 model with "Graves" stamped to the upper shaft, a factory production code reading C80226 02" is stamped to the underside of the upper shaft. Retaining its original tape job of white over the shaved handle/knob and black over the blade and having been painted black over the lower shaft, heel and blade, the stick displays excellent game-use via numerous marks and abrasions throughout the entire length of the shaft, heel and untaped sections of the blade while the blade tape itself shows marks and cuts over both sides. Additionally, also included with the lot is a goalie stick issued to Rangers goalie Dan Cloutier for use during the same season. Made by Branches, the all white stick with red and blue accents has had "D. Cloutier" stamped to the upper shaft. Having never been taped and never been used, the stick remains in good condition though does show numerous marks and nicks throughout from storage, moving and handling over the years. Having been signed by nine (9) players from that years Rangers squad in black marker including names such as Leetch, Cloutier, Stevens, Vorobiev, Cairns and others, all the autographs display well with some showing light smudging. Hailing from the personal collection of Brian Skrudland, his signed LOA will accompany the lot.
