Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Members of the Canadian contingent at the 2002 Winter Olympics each received a quarter-size coin during the team’s first meeting upon assembling in Salt Lake. We have an example, with this the exact same as the coins presented, we’re just unsure as to who the recipient was? With Team Canada’s logo and “Commit to Gold” on one side along with Hockey Canada’s logo included on the other, the coins weren’t just handed out, they were presented by Wayne Gretzky himself to each player, coach, executive, trainer, etc. Gretzky wanted everyone to have a special type of good luck charm, a physical, bonding symbol that he hoped would help the team come together and ultimately reach everyone’s common goal of bringing the Olympic ice hockey championship back to Canada for the first time in 50 years. Contained in its original presentation box, the Intergold-produced coin is in gorgeous condition, with absolutely no unsightly wear.
