Captivating and memory-provoking miniature Stanley Cup recalls the
Edmonton Oilers’ return to hockey’s pinnacle and their third Cup
title in four years. After being eliminated the previous spring by
Calgary, the Oilers racked up a league-high 50 regular season wins
and 106 points in 1986-87 as Wayne Gretzky claimed his seventh
straight scoring championship, with Jari Kurri and Mark Messier also
reaching the 100-point plateau. Come playoff time, the three, along
with Glenn Anderson, again led offensively as Edmonton took care of
Los Angeles (4-1), Winnipeg (4-0) and Detroit (4-1), before edging
Philadelphia in the first seven-game final in 16 years. Kurri’s goal
with five minutes to go in the second period of game seven proved to
be the Cup-winner in the Oilers 3-1 clincher, once again (like in ’84
and ’85) in front of delirious hometown fans. Oilers director of
public relations Bill Tuele’s name is engraved on this personal
replica of Lord Stanley’s coveted trophy, along with those of other
executives and the coaches, and above the names of the players who
will forever be remembered as hockey’s most exciting team. Silver-
plated trophy stands 13” high and has been preserved in near perfect
condition in its original soft blue pouch from the Boffey company and
a black NHL presentation box. Representing a terrific opportunity
for Oilers’ faithful, the exquisite treasure will be accompanied by a
letter of authenticity signed by Bill Tuele.
