Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
The second Olympics held in Los Angeles, the 1984 summer games are remembered for the boycotts of a number of eastern European countries including Russia and West Germany. This gold plated medal is a sample of the official examples produced by Josten’s for the “XXIII Olympiad Los Angeles 1984”. “Sample” is stamped onto both the front and verso, with lady Victory on front hoisting a laurel wreath, and a generic athlete on the reverse being carried on the shoulders of his competitors. Displayed in an attractive wood case with dual-glass panels at roughly 7” x 3 ¼” x 8”, the remnants of a sticker from maker Josten’s is affixed to the underside. With no issues to the medal or wooden case to note, one of the ribbons holding the medal in place appears to be detached.
We should note that the original wooden cover to the case is no longer present.
