Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
First held in 1930, the Commonwealth Games are a quadrennial international multi-sport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The 1978 Games took place in Edmonton, and were officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II. These were the first Commonwealth Games where a computerized system was used to handle ticket sales. This limited-edition commemorative sword by Wilkinson was produced for the games. At 34" in length, the steel blade features etchings of each event logo from the games along with "The XI Commonwealth Games Canada (1978) Foundation", with a Wilkinson emblem near the hilt. The guard sports an enamel games logo just above the rosewood handle, with the limited-edition number of "103" stamped to the edge of the blade (while we are unsure on how many were produced, it was probably 500 or 1,000). There is minor surface wear throughout, with no obtrusive marks or damage. Overall, the sword presents beautifully.
