Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Featuring the 1977 and 1979 IIHF World Championship tournaments, we offer a neat collection of items highlighted by participation medals and a pennant signed by Team Canada. The 1977 tournament was held in Austria, with Czechoslovakia taking the gold, while the 1979 tournament featured a dominant Soviet squad that went undefeated. From the 1977 tournament, we have a participation medal in it’s original presentation case (2”, with black enamel stick and “77” puck on the obverse and Austrian landscape over the reverse), a pair of Team Canada cufflinks in original presentation case (Hockey Canada emblems with Carling O’Keefe logos, no hallmarks), a souvenir Titan puck and group of six stickers. Next, from the 1979 tournament, we have a participation medal (2 ½”, square shaped, with Cyrillic text and a 1979 WC logo over the obverse and “Mockba” and “1979” over the reverse), a souvenir puck, two small banners (one still has a Russian label attached) and a Russian pin set of ten in it’s original box (4” x 14 ½”). The Team Canada pennant also hails from 1979 and features graphics from the tournament, with 21 signing including Marcel Dionne, Ryan Walter, Wilf Paiement, Greg Smith and others, with heavier wear to the pennant including creasing. The participation medals remain in pleasing condition, with considerable discolouration to the reverse of the 1979 medal and tarnishing to the 1977 example.
