Jean Beliveau Foundation Auction

It’s difficult to imagine another Canadiens, or other NHL team for that matter, being assembled that will rival the Montreal teams which captured four consecutive Stanley Cup championships in the 1970s. This silver-plated memento was presented to Canadiens’ vice-president Jean Beliveau after the powerful Habs made it three straight Cups in ‘77-78. After taking care of the Bruins in the finals, Larry Robinson was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP of the playoffs, capping off a memorable season that saw Guy Lafleur take the Art Ross (scoring champ), the Hart (league MVP) and Pearson (players’ choice as outstanding player) trophies. Dryden and Larocque shared the Vezina, Savard won the Masterton and Gainey was awarded the first Selke Trophy as the NHL’s best defensive forward. Their names, along with those of team captain Cournoyer, Lemaire, Shutt, Lapointe and the wonderful supporting cast are engraved in three columns on the barrel of this miniature, 13” high Cup. Beliveau’s name is among the executives and coaches above, including Sam Pollock and Scotty Bowman. With miscellaneous areas of tarnish and silver-loss, the trophy was originally given to Jean Beliveau’s daughter Helene when the legend agreed to auction off his souvenirs three years ago. Thus, being offered to the hobby for the first time, it represents one of those opportunities that seldom comes around and will surely excite and delight its new owner. A letter of authenticity signed by Jean Beliveau will be included with this formidable keepsake.
