Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
A WHA collectibles bonanza is offered here, with wrappers swell complements to the card sets. Some sharp 1974-75 cards lead chronologically, with EX-MT and NM examples dominating, while the #1-The Howes card is typically lower (VG-EX), with Hull EX+ and Plante EX-MT. Corner wear is more evident with the '75-76 set; EX and EX+ examples show up most often, with 1-Hull (VG) and writing on the back of 7-Mark Howe RC to be aware of and not always great centering. Near mint looks to be the average of the '76-77 ensemble, with overall good centering striking the beholder and the first card again a condition exception. Some scorching pack-fresh cards are among the '77-78 examples, the majority of which are NM-MT or better, with however 1-Howe EX+ and 50-Hull miscut. The four (unmarked) checklists are all NM or better, with wrapper details available on our website. Gordie, Bobby, The Big M, J.C. Superstar and others - what a chapter in hockey history!
Some fading and staple holes at the four corners affect the (tear-free) '74-75 wrapper, with that from '75-76 miscut and with three half-inch edge tears. Two '76-77 wrappers, offering to send away for a team toque, include one real nice one and another with multiple creases, while a variation (offering a "Wonder Camera") is multi-creased but free of rips. Also three from '77-78 and without tears; two advertise a harmonica, with a pocket knife offered up on the other. Ah, the good old 1970s.
