Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/21/2022
The fitting conclusion to the greatest international hockey tournament ever held, and unfolding like a Shakespearean play, with a complete list of villains along with an unlikely hero and enthralled audience, Game 8 of the fabled Canada-Russia Series in 1972 took place at the Luzhniki Palace of Sports in Moscow. Trading goals throughout much of the contest, the Soviets went up by two late in the second, with Canada tying things up in the third before Paul Henderson scored the most famous goal in history to both win the tournament, and earn immortality. We offer an original 1972 Canada-Russia Series stub produced for the historic Game 8 in Moscow, graded PR 1 by PSA. At 2 ¾” x 5” with a rough torn edge, the thin paper ticket lists the game, date, venue and seat in Cyrillic, with a line drawing of the Luzhniki Palace of Sports on the reverse. This is the ONLY STUB TO RECEIVE A NUMERICAL GRADE AT PSA (the PSA Population Report shows two other stubs graded authentic).
