Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
A cultural landmark event that reinforced Canada’s hockey supremacy, the 1972 Summit Series featured the best the mighty maple leaf could muster, taking on a strong, disciplined Soviet squad that were a formidable match for any team. This lot contains a collection of 42 matching Team Canada team member (38) and management photos (6), with each having Hockey Canada and Team Canada logos, accompanied by a rare mini pennant that was gifted to players before the contests in Moscow. All 35 rostered players are present along with three additional junior players that were invited to training camp by Alan Eagleson (Billy Harris, John Van Boxmeer and Bunny Larocque). All in the 8” x 10” range, examples are present for Orr, Dryden, Clarke, Gilbert, Mikita, Ratelle, Henderson and others. The mini pennant (4” x 6 ½”) lists the dates along with the participants, with flags for each nation placed along the top.
The photos in the collection display nicely with light wear along with the odd wrinkle or corner ding, with just some minor staining/discolouration to the mini pennant. As an added bonus, we also have a small 4 ½” x 7” Team Canada roster in Cyrillic on thick cardboard, laminated, along with a matching example for the Russians from the 1974 Canada-Russia series.
