Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Forever popular amongst collectors and headlined by the key rookie card of Montreal Canadiens goalie, Ken Dryden, the 1971-72 Topps hockey release featured a checklist of 132-cards that was chalked full of star power including names such as Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr and Bobby Hull among others. Offered here, is this 1971-72 Topps hockey 500-count vending box that has been opened and includes approximately 430 of the cards that once graced its interior. Stamped with "Hockey" over the top lid and void of any examples of 45-Dryden RC, 50-Hull, 70-Howe, 100-Orr, 111-Checklist and 114-Clarke, the box does include a group of sixty-two (62) cards picturing Hall of Famers including those of Stan Mikita (4), Tony Esposito (5), Johnny Bucyk (3), Jacques Plante (2), Dave Keon (5), Norm Ullman (5), Bernie Parent (2), Jean Ratelle (3), Rod Gilbert (5), Ed Giacomin (6), Brad Park (1), Frank Mahovlich (3), Alex Delvecchio (3), Pat Quinn (3), Henri Richard (1), Yvan Cournoyer (5), Jacques Lemaire (5) and Bob Pulford (1). With a good portion of the cards sporting light wear to one of their four (4) corners, a majority of the cards are viewed as being in the vicinity of EX, EX-MT and NM while a small portion of lower grade examples are present as well, totalling seventeen (17) cards, with most showing a ding of varying severity to the lower portion of their left side edge. Finally, the box that the cards were originally packed in remains in good condition with some wear to the corners, edges and surfaces as well as some light creasing that is worth mentioning for accuracy.
