Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024

What a start to a big-league career it was for big Ken Dryden, the former Cornell star winning his six first regular season NHL starts down the stretch in 1970-71 and then helping the Canadiens to pull off a highly unlikely upset of the record-setting Bruins in the first round of the playoffs....and then backstopping the Habs to series wins over the North Stars and Black Hawks and the Stanley Cup! Playing in a record 20 playoff tilts, Dryden earned the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. A well-centered Dryden O-Pee-Chee rookie card offered here that has earned a MINT 9 mark some years ago at SGC, good colours and clean surfaces to go along with the pleasing centering over the front surely help contribute to its high-grade mark while a slight bit of wear to the bottom right corner on the reverse along with a small mark on the reverse are worthy of mention for accuracy. Housed in an SGC holder that shows some scuffs and scratches over both sides, out of the 138 copies of Dryden's rookie that have been examined by SGC over the years, only ten (10) in total have received a MINT 9 designation while two (2) have achieved a perfect GEM 10 over their labels. A special first-year card of one of the best to ever tend the twine in the game of hockey, this example awaits its new home in your all-important collection.
