Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
Widely regarded as one of the greatest players to ever wear the iconic Canadiens jersey, Guy
Lafleur was the offensive cornerstone of Montreal’s dominance during the 1970s. After leading
the Quebec Remparts to a Memorial Cup championship in 1971, Lafleur entered the NHL in the
1971-72 season with immense expectations—and he more than delivered. Over his illustrious
career, “The Flower” captured five Stanley Cup championships, three Art Ross Trophies, two
Hart Memorials, and a Conn Smythe Trophy, cementing his place in hockey history.
Offered here is a near-perfect example of Lafleur’s coveted 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee rookie card (#148), graded MINT 9 by PSA. Out of the 2,161 copies submitted to PSA over the years, this pop-59 example is only bettered by six others on the PSA population report. The card features a well focused image of a young Lafleur, with the back of the card confidently predicts Lafleur’s future greatness: “Guy will be a superstar”, a statement that could not have been more accurate.
The card is housed in a PSA holder that remains in excellent condition with just a few minor scratches to be noted, and is an ideal specimen for a high-grade 1971-72 set.
