Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Widely considered as one of the top three players throughout the history of the fabled Montreal Canadiens along with Rocket Richard and Jean Beliveau, Guy Lafleur enjoyed tremendous success during his Habs tenure, capturing five Stanley Cup championships, three Art Ross Trophies, two Hart Memorials and the Conn Smythe. Entering the National Hockey League during the 1971-72 season after leading the Quebec Remparts to a Memorial Cup championship the year before, offered here is this near perfect copy of Guy's coveted 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee rookie card that has earned a high-grade mark of MINT 9 from the graders at PSA. Displaying with beautifully sharp corners all the way around and centering over the front that is virtually perfect to the naked eye, it is worth noting that the card is very lightly toned on the front and that the reverse is a bit off-center from left-to-right. Foreshadowing the career that “The Flower” would have, the reverse of the card states that “Guy will be a superstar”, a statement that came true as Lafleur would become one of the greatest in Canadiens history over the course of his career. Nice prediction, O-Pee-Chee. With only light scratches observed to the PSA holder, you will enjoy holding and beholding this fantastic piece.
