Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Referred to by collectors as Cowan Tiles, these 6” by 6” ceramic affairs were reportedly meant to be sold at NHL arenas but speculation is that licensing issues led to them never being released to the public, and despite most apparently being destroyed, a fairly large number has survived. Over 100 different players exist, with “SCREENART PRODUCTS LTD. – Made in Canada” appearing on the cork backing of each. We have a collection of 34 in their original shipping box that was sent to Andy Bathgate care of the New York Rangers. Each tile remains in wonderful near-mint condition, with just the Jean Ratelle example broken and repaired with glue. Included are HOFers Bathgate, Moore, Beliveau, Worsley, Harvey, Geoffrion, Howell, Johnson, Pronovost and Henri Richard.
Other players present within this Cowan tile collection are Burns, Backstrom, Berenson, Cahan, Goyette, Horvath, Hebenton, Langlois, Marshall, Rousseau, G. Trmblay, Toppazzini, Balon, Provost, Hadfield, Talbot, Ingarfield, Fontinato, Maniago, Hampton, Patrick, Hicke and JC Tremblay.
