Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017

Marvelous are these items from Topps' 1961-62 issue, with however the card wrapper revealing "Made and Distributed in Canada by O-Pee-Chee". Packs contained four cards, a stick of gum and, for the first time, an insert, with a pair of stamps like the one shown on the wrapper included. There are 25 different pairs here, as well as five duplicates, with condition rather impressive. The Pierre Pilote/A. Pronovost duo is the only one required for set completion. The card set's key, depicting young star Bobby Hull, is present and graded EX+ 5.5 by Beckett, while the valuable checklist (#66) received NM 7 recognition from PSA. A (raw) Jean Ratelle rookie card is crease-free and VG-EX+, with 20-Bruins Team similar and featuring dandy original gloss. Completing is a low grade 21-Action Near The Crease with back damage. Please see our website for condition details of the scarce and desirable stamps and wrapper.
The wrapper includes standard fold lines, along with multiple light creases but no edge tears, while all but one (Langlois/Murphy - light bend) of the stamp pairs look almost like they were pulled from packs yesterday. It should be mentioned though that two very subtle vertical parallel "lines" are spotted when the stamps are held at a particular angle, with one line affecting each stamp. This is true for 13 of the 25 different pairs and four of the five duplicates. "Doubles" are of Denneny/Goheen, H. Gardiner/Lehman, Lalonde/C. Gardiner, Hall/Boivin and Oliver/Howell. The fabulous lineup includes all-time greats Morenz, Vezina, Taylor, Malone, Stewart, Clancy, Irvin, Clapper and others, as well as then current stars Hull, Hall, Mikita, Bucyk, Harvey and Worsley.
