Jacques Plante Auction March 2006
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/28/2006
Formidable memento commemorates hockey’s greatest dynasty and was produced recently at the request of the Jacques Plante Foundation in Switzerland. Coach Toe Blake and several of Plante’s teammates have said in the past that the Canadiens could have never won their record five straight Stanley Cups had it not been for Jacques’ exceptional play. The legend made it five straight Vezina trophies and then turned in another clutch playoff performance, notably allowing just five goals in the finals as Montreal swept both Chicago and Toronto. Plante’s sparkling display played a large role in the acceptance of the mask (which Jacques introduced in November of that season) by goaltenders worldwide. Jean Beliveau scored the Cup-winning goal this time and Rocket Richard played in his last game, a 4-0 win in Toronto. The names of the powerful team are all engraved on the barrel of this exquisite miniature Cup. It is in perfect condition and represents a memorable championship season and a dynasty which will likely never by matched. A letter of authenticity from the Plante family will be included.
