Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020

The rookie card of a goaltending legend, legendary Canadiens and Maple Leafs and then-current Montreal and Toronto stars - Parkhurst's popular 1955-56 issue has always had lots to offer. The key Jacques Plante RC here is graded 7 NM by KSA and we see that as a generous grade, given the visible corner wear and noticeable color loss in the goalie's red uniform and in the red strip to the right of the image. Also slabbed by KSA are #18-Dick Duff RC (7 NM) and 59-George Hainsworth (6 ENM), with a minor stain on the back of the latter. Twenty-one (raw) cards are also affected by wax staining, including Rocket Richard (EX)(small stain similar to Hainsworth and Vezina), with larger blemishes observed on the reverse of Broda, Primeau, Kennedy, Marshall RC, Moore, Morenz, Joliat and action cards 70 and 71. Most of the raw cards are crease-free and in the VG-EX to EX range, with a few higher and creasing spotted in a dozen, including notables Horton, Beliveau, The Montreal Forum and Maple Leaf Gardens, all G to G+. A curvature in the cards (side-to-side) and uniform light toning is also to mention. One card, 73-Richard Tests Lumley, has scotch tape stains at the four corners. Always intriguing are stacks of '55-56 Parkies, with the Oldtime Greats contributing to the appeal.
