Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
A fabulous rendition of hockey's peerless innovator, Jacques Plante, graces the legend's official rookie card, one of the hobby's most popular and desirable. Jacques had already played parts of two seasons and been on three "action" Parkhurst cards the previous year when this card #50 was pulled from a pack, the same year that Les Canadiens started their remarkable run of five (5) straight Stanley Cup championships. Having been assessed by the graders at PSA who have bestowed their mark of NM 7 upon the sought after cardboard. His well-known style of coming out of his crease to play the puck and help his defencemen is curiously mentioned on the back of card #50, the write-up ending off with, "He likes to wander all over the ice, giving the coach a headache." With a wide left side border, the high-grade offering from one of the best to ever play boasts vivid colors, sharp corners, smooth edges and good centering that surely help contribute equally to its given designation while some light staining is present on the reverse. Housed in a good condition modern PSA holder that displays nearly as well as the card inside it, the company's population report tells the tale of how only eighteen (18) of the 389 examples graded by the company have earned a higher mark and how this specimen is a POP-41 offering. Beautiful in every way, don't miss out on this one!
