Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
A thought-provoking scarcity up for grabs here brings forth the story of how Bernie Geoffrion’s 75 points in 1954-55 won Boom Boom his first of two NHL scoring championships but also earned him boos from his own fans as he beat out suspended hero Rocket Richard by a single point. The Boomer was then picked by the deciders to appear on Quaker Oats’ various cereal boxes the following season, with Parkhurst Quaker Oats hockey cards available in boxes of Quaker Puffed Wheat, Puffed Rice, Corn Flakes and others. The offered card was cut from a cereal box and not a “Display Box” as identified on the SGC label here, where “A AUTH” also appears. The cardboard had survived in very appealing condition before encapsulation, with only a light quarter-inch horizontal crease extending in from the left edge. An absolute must for a master Parkie collection, this terrific piece will be delivered in a SGC holder free of unsightly scratches.
