This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Before winning the Stanley Cup in the spring of 1954, Gordie Howe and the Detroit Red Wings were holed up for a day in the Alcatraz of the North. Terry Sawchuk and Mr. Hockey are among the Red Wings HOFers who have signed the cover of a framed program from their February 2, 1954 exhibition game against a team of inmates on an outdoor rink at Marquette Prison in northern Michigan. Jack Adams, Tommy Ivan, Ted Lindsay, Alex Delvecchio, Marcel Pronovost and Red Kelly are also among the 19 pencil signatures on the 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" program which is displayed in a 13” x 10” frame. Included is a package with 3x5 and 8x10 recent prints of photos from the game and some documentation about the game.
Metro Prystai, Glen Skov, John Wilson, Benny Woit, Earl Reibel, Marty Pavelich, Bob Goldham, Jim Hay, Jimmy Peters and Bill Dineen are the other Red Wings who have signed along with Marquette Prison warden Emery E. Jacques. The paper stock program cover displays handling that includes creases and tears along the bottom edge, along with yellowed cellophane tape along the top, bottom and left edges.
Included are stories about the game from the February 1984 issue of the Red Wings Inside Line magazine and the Jan. 29, 2004 edition of the Detroit Free Press The Puck insert.
There are seven (7) 5x3 prints of black and white shots from the 1954 prison game showing images of Howe, Sawchuk and the rest of the Red Wings on the ice along with the prisoners’ team;
There are nine (9) bigger prints, mostly 8x10s, and most of which are from the 1954 prison game showing Howe, Sawchuk, Lindsay, Kelly, Adams and the rest of the Red Wings and the inmates;
Howe is pictured dressed in a suit and tie in a vintage 1954 photo (4 1/2" x 6”) from the Red Wings’ trip to Marquette Prison;

Red Wings and Marquette Sentinels lineups appear on an 8 1/2" x 11” sheet that was printed at some point for the exhibition game Detroit played that evening against the semi-pro team that sponsored the Red Wings’ trip to Marquette Prison.
