Discovered in packs while the Detroit Red Wings were heading towards a record seventh straight regular season championship and a fourth Stanley Cup title in six years were Parkhurst cards like these, with Gordie Howe heading the star power in the 1954-55 issue. Featuring attractive EX+ characteristics is Gordie’s card #41, with however light, subtle (curved) surface indentations (from having once been stored in a Parkie album) detected in the lower portion, similar to approximately 30 others. Most notable in the group are similar-condition examples of 33-Sawchuk and 41-Horton, along with 82-Sasakamoose RC (otherwise EX), while without the indentations are 65-Bower RC (VG+), 3-Beliveau (VG) and 14-Harvey (VG+). The Rocket Richard entry is one of a dozen that measure markedly short, suggesting trimming, while amid another dozen exhibiting an obvious crease lowering them to below VG are 1-McNeil, 8-Geoffrion, 97-Plante action, 100-Sawchuk Stops Boom Boom and 24-Armstrong, the latter one of 20 with a “Lucky Premium” (LP) back. Expect mostly attractive mid-grade cards among the rest, with varying degrees of intermittent toning. Nine bonus duplicates include 59-Schmidt (VG) and 74-Prentice RC (VG-EX), both of them with LP backs. Classic collectibles await their new home.
