Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
One of the most important and desirable hockey cards of the postwar era is that depicting the late, great Gordon Howe, with this high grade example receiving a mark of NM+ 7.5 from KSA. With rich vibrant colors, card #66 exhibits a lightly touched lower left corner, with a little less-than-perfect top-to-bottom centering. Gordie had already established himself as one of the game's premier players, winning his first of four consecutive NHL scoring championships in '50-51, when he made his debut in the hobby with this coveted card, originally discovered/uncovered in a little Parkhurst “box” during a memorable campaign for Gordie and his teammates. The Red Wings went on to win the Stanley Cup that season, their second championship in a run of four Cups in six years from 1949-50 to ’54-55. Offered is a terrific chance to either add this highly-sought Howe card to your '51-52 Parkies set, or upgrade the quality of the Howe rookie card that currently anchors your postwar collection.
