Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
A Stanley Cup champion in each of his first three seasons which included scoring the overtime Cup winner in 1951, Bill Barilko is well known to Toronto Maple Leafs supporters and Canadian hockey fans at large, with his tragic disappearance after that 1951 Cup triumph immortalized in verse by The Tragically Hip. Offered here, is this collection of memorabilia showcasing the four-time Stanley Cup champion. Paced by a copy of the card from Parkhurst's 1951 set titled "The Winning Goal", showing the moment Barilko won the Leafs the Stanley Cup over the Montreal Canadiens for the 1949-50 season, the card has been deemed worthy of a PR 1 grade from the graders at PSA, due to the card showing creases throughout as well as rounded corners/dings. Also including a 2016 Leaf Genesis of Bashing Bill that has a piece of tape taken from one of Barilko's game-used sticks embedded into the front of it, the card has been serial numbered "4/5" in gold foil above the swatch of black coloured memorabilia. Having also been graded by PSA, this time sporting a grade of NM 7, both holders housing their respective cards remain in good condition but show light scratches over both sides. Lastly, to round out the trio of offerings, is a 1945-54 Quaker Oats photograph of the blue liner that presents in FR condition with creases, punch holes at one side, surface indents and handwritten statistics over the reverse. A cool collection of one of the biggest names in Maple Leafs and Stanley Cup lore, don't miss out on this!
