Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021

Howie Morenz was the NHL’s original superstar, the Babe Ruth of Hockey in his day. A three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Canadiens, Morenz helped put the league on the pro sports map in the United States as well as Canada in the 1920s and ‘30s. His stunning death at the age of 34 on March 8, 1937 left his family, friends, fans, teammates and peers heartbroken by its suddenness. This coveted Howie Morenz Memorial Fund Programme is a complete 56-page edition. It comes with two tickets stubs from the benefit game played in his honor between a team of NHL All-Stars featuring Eddie Shore and Charlie Conacher and a combined Canadiens-Maroons team at the Montreal Forum on Nov. 2, 1937 to raise funds for his grieving family.
The program measures 12” x 9” and it exhibits some handling and foxing that is not unexpected for this 83-year-old treasure. The centerfold with lineups for both the NHL “All-Star Team” and the Canadiens-Maroons team on the right side on “Page twenty-nine” is detached from the two rusty staples on the spine but the program is whole with no cuts or alterations. Each ticket stub from the Morenz Memorial game remains in splendid crease-free condition. They each measure a shade under 4” x 2 ½” and list the original ticket price of $2.25.
