The autograph of the first Prime Minister of Canada, Sir John A. MacDonald, is featured among the signatures on this rare and spectacular piece, a presentation framed print of the British high commissioners to the 1871 Treaty of Washington. This group photograph was shot by famed Civil War photographer Mathew Brady and is studio inscribed by hand beneath the photo at lower left "M. B. Brady" and at the opposite right "Washington D.C.". The image itself features, from left to right, Lord Tenterden, Sir Stafford Northcote, Sir John A. Macdonald, Earl de Grey & Ripon, Mountague Bernard and Sir Edward Thornton. Each has hand signed boldly in the lower margin. The 16” x 13 3/4" mounted albumen photograph is displayed in a 17” square opening in the matte of this 26” x 27” wood frame. There is some minor toning to the paper mount and several small tears in the image as made and mounted by Brady's studio. This spectacular piece of history featuring the original signature of Canada’s first Prime Minister comes with a JSA LOA for the autographs and an additional COA.
