Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018

A very infrequent occurrence is the opportunity to secure a near complete set of Sprite bottle caps, the desirable collectibles featuring the head shots of the players who helped write the last chapters of the Original Six era. This delectable ensemble was, remarkably, never put on soft drink bottles. The un-crimped examples are complete with their cork liners and are the English “Taste Sprite” versions, much scarcer than their popular Coca-Cola counterparts from the same 1964-65 season. A few “specs” and small scratches are detected here and there while admiring the nifty treasures, with small spots of oxidation and/or rust also spotted on intermittent caps. Overall, these are mighty pleasing and free of any dents/bends that would occur when opening pop bottles back in the day. Notable condition exceptions are Richard (dented), Hull (yellowish tint), as well as Bower and Gilbert (more oxidation than others). Missing for completion are Fonteyne, Plante and Horton with duplicates included of Goyette, Mikol and Bathgate. Other legends Howe, Beliveau, Sawchuk, Hall, Mikita, Mahovlich, Cournoyer, Esposito and Keon contribute to the terrific star-studded lineup, bringing one word to mind - cheers!
