Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Originally sold through the Hockey Diversified NHL Goal Puck Program that offered game-used examples from 1972-73 and 1973-74, a label was affixed to each listing the scorer, team and date, along with a code that divulged which team-goal said puck accounted for. This particular puck was used by Ron Ellis to score the Toronto Maple Leafs 103rd goal of the 1973-74 season vs the New York Rangers, at Maple Leaf Gardens, on Dec 15, 1973. With both clubs sporting winning records going into the contest (Toronto 14-11-6 / New York 13-8-9), the score would end up deadlocked at 2-a-piece. Ellis would finish the 1973-74 season just under the 50-point plateau, scoring 48 in 70 regular season games.
The Leafs rubberized logo has a few dark marks, with blemishes and toning over the Goal Puck Program label. There is also a large and smooth groove along an edge, with this appearing to be a factory flaw.
