Appointed as a trustee for the Stanley Cup upon the death of former president Red Dutton in 1987, Brian O’Neill still holds the position at 93-years-of-age. Overseeing the NHL’s expansion draft in 1967, and later the NHL Entry Draft, O’Neill served as executive vice-president of the NHL after president Clarence Campbell stepped down in 1977. We offer a collection of five official NHL documents including a trio from the early-1980s signed by HOFer Brian O’Neill, along with a 1953 letter addressed to fellow HOF member Hap Day, and a 1974 Standard Assignment Agreement for Michel Plante, sending the winger from Toronto to St Louis. The O’Neill-signed letters are all on NHL letterhead and typed, with O’Neill signing in blue ballpoint, with the content of each regarding player fines. The Plante agreement has been signed by Lou Angotti in his role as Blues head coach, while the typed letter addressed to Hap Day in also on NHL letterhead and signed by Central Registry employee Byron Higginson. The documents show just light handling wear.
