Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/21/2022
Fascinating is the well-known story of Bill Barilko and so too, come to think of it, is how a photographer was able to capture the Maple Leafs’ d-man after he advanced toward a loose puck and lifted it past Montreal’s Gerry McNeil to give Toronto a 3-2 overtime win in Game 5 of the 1951 Stanley Cup finals, returning the Leafs to hockey’s pinnacle for the fourth time in five years. A respectable low grade 1951-52 Parkhurst #52-The Winning Goal card is offered here, with multiple light creases sending it to Poor. Meanwhile, a charismatic smiling image of Bashin’ Bill, along with a piece of his game-used memorabilia (presumably skate), appear on a modern card produced by Leaf and serial-numbered “4/5” above the piece of black leather – cool. A light ding to a back edge corner of the thick creation is to note.
