Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
An inviting specimen for a higher grade tobacco card collection is offered here and we can’t help adding some interesting info about Ottawa native Erskine Ronan, identified on this C55 beauty as “Skein” and in the record books as “Skene”. No matter, the boy could play and was known for jumping contract, playing for teams in Pittsburgh and Toronto and then in the National Hockey Association for Haileybury, Renfrew, Ottawa and Montreal, winning the Stanley Cup with the Canadiens in 1915-16. And get this, although depicted in his Renfrew sweater here, Ronan in 1911-12 lined up with the Ottawa Senators and led the entire NHA with 35 goals in 18 games! This example of card #26 scored well at PSA, its EX-MT 6 assessment ranking it behind just 15 other unqualified copies out of the 137 Ronan cards to have been inspected by PSA since the firm’s inception. A swell treasure to hold and behold while contemplating hockey before the formation of the NHL. A small scratch to the front of the PSA holder, in the red section of the jersey, is joined by a few other subtle scratches.
