Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club's comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
During the Original Six era, NHL teams traveled by train in order to face their opponents and the Canadiens were always well-dressed and ready for win each time they went on a road trip – especially in the dynasty years from 1955-56 to 1959-60. Offered here is a fine framed photo display featuring members of the team dressed to the nines, with the modern print matted. Depicted here are some legendary names like Maurice Richard and coach Toe Blake, but you will also see Richard’s wife, Lucille, here along with one of their children. The frame does have some rubber adhesive residue on top and some mild damage on the front of the frame, which is understandable when since it was on display in hockey’s revered temple. On the back, there are some holes which were made when the display was mounted along with removable wooden pieces that helped hold it in place and small tears in the backing paper, but this should in no way take away from your enjoyment of this unique piece. Direct from the archives of the Montreal Canadiens, this framed display was likely displayed at the Montreal Forum and possibly later on at the Molson Centre/Bell Centre. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
