Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club's comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
Receiving his famous moniker for the roaring slap shots delivered to opposing netminders, Bernard “Boom Boom” Geoffrion was only the second player in history to net 50 goals in a single season. Despite being best remembered as a HOF member of the Montreal Canadiens 1950s Stanley Cup dynasty, Geoffrion later lent his immense hockey skills to coaching, serving from behind the Habs bench for just the 1979-80 NHL season. Originally displayed at the hallowed Montreal Forum and most likely later at the Bell Centre, we have a framed painting of Bernie Geoffrion by noted Habs artist Michel Lapensee. At approx 11” x 15” and executed in water colours, Boom Boom is beautifully depicted, with his name and tenure listed on the matte. The artist has signed, adding the date (1992), with the work double-matted and framed to approx 19” x 23”. The unique painting is flawless, with some damage to the text on the matte and wear to the frame including a few blemishes. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
