Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Well respected by the Canadian hockey cognoscenti after his epic performance at the Summit Series in 1972 in which all competition representing the might maple leaf was stifled, Vladislav Tretiak is an honoured Hall of Fame inductee despite never playing a single game in the NHL. The superstar was also voted the best all-time Russian hockey player in 2000. Many noteworthy netminders were trained by Tretiak including Martin Brodeur and Eddie Belfour, and we offer a signed jersey that originates from his goaltending school in the 1990s, along with a pair of vintage Jofa helmets and a Montreal model goal stick that resemble items used by the icon. First, the jersey has Sports Sphere labeling with “XL” sizing along the collar, with “Vladislav Tretiak Goaltending School” rubberized over the front along with a Canadian Tire logo, with “20” in white vinyl heat-pressed to the reverse. Tretiak has added an attractive signature within the reverse “2” in black marker, with the signature fading slightly over time. The jersey itself shows wear from use, with a tear to the striping band over the right sleeve. The helmets are both vintage 1970s/80s Jofa models in solid red with intact harnesses and chin straps, with “Montreal” decals across each forehead. Both have later cages added, with one resembling the example Tretiak wore early in his career. The Montreal stick sports black tape over the blade and knob, with the striping accent intact and light wear throughout including a tear to the blade tape, minor chipping to the paddle and red paint transfer over the upper shaft.
