For serious tobacco/pre-war card collectors who appreciate/pursue the finest that the hobby has to offer comes this second-to-none-at-PSA C56 card depicting Hall of Famer Ernie Russell of the Montreal Wanderers. A star "rover" and then center during nine elite seasons, Johnson led the Eastern Canada AHA with 43 goals in 1906-07 (in just nine games!). That was after the previous season scoring four goals in his first Stanley Cup contest, helping the Wanderers to their first Stanley Cup. Desirable EX-MT 6 card here is one of ten to receive such lofty recognition, with none higher on the Russell "line" of the PSA Population Report, the company inspecting/encapsulating 98 examples of card #20 over the years. A special treasure awaits.
The older PSA holder has been well cared for, with a couple of light scratches only detectable upon close inspection. Meanwhile, on closer inspection of Russell's scoring exploits, one learns that he totaled 184 goals in 101 league games and also starred in Stanley Cup challenge contests, leading the Wanderers with 31 goals in 11 games as the club either defended or captured Cup bragging rights three other times after the initial win in March of 1906. Hockey history + the 110-year old collectible here = fascinating!
