Capturing Lord Stanley’s elusive grail after just their second NHL season in 1927-28, the New York Rangers were especially successful during their infancy, missing the NHL playoffs only once during the 1930s. This lot offers a group of five vintage 8” x 10” Blueshirt team photos, highlighted by a specimen team-signed by the 1936-37 Rangers. Included with the team-signed photo, we have an original high-grade photo of the 1931-32 Rangers with HOF members Earl Siebert, Frank Boucher, Ching Johnson, Lester Patrick and the Cook brothers, followed by three additional team photos. The team-signed 1936-37 photo is in poor condition with creases, tears, paper loss and clear tape, with 18 signing near their respective image including deceased HOF members Ching Johnson, Art Coulter, Babe Pratt, Frank Boucher, Bill Cook, Neil Colville, and Lester and Lynn Patrick.
The additional signers on the 1936-37 Rangers team photo are Phil Watson, Mac Colville, Cecil Dillon, Davie Kerr, Alex Shibicky, Murray Murdoch, Joe Cooper, Butch Keeling and Otto Heller. The signatures display well, with the Johnson, Cook, Pratt and Boucher autographs a bit light, with the Coulter a bit hard to see due to the dark background. The additional team photos are from 1936-37 (the same image as the team-signed photo), 1939-40 (creases, toning and surface wear with a clipped corner) and 1946-47 (minor creases and toning, with facsimile signatures).
