Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2021
Two of the game's all-time greatest centers always had great respect for one another. It was Mario Lemieux who initiated a trade with Jean Beliveau, asking the Canadiens legend for one of his game-used sticks, in exchange for this Penguins sweater. The Center Ice tag in the neck has "66" added in black marker, near a size 56 fly tag. Maska air-knit tag is in the hem. CCM and NHL logos are embroidered into the hem and the inner hem has a label with "66 Lemieux ‘96-97". Mario signed the big Penguins crest on the front after writing "A Jean Bonne chance" (To Jean, Good luck). Jersey appears to have been laundered but we can't spot any game wear so we're not offering it as game-worn jersey, although Mario could very well have worn it for a game or two. Originally from Jean Beliveau's personal collection, the superb jersey will come with his signed LOA.
